Hi! I just realized that this was probably why my knitting kept getting jammed and such. Just got a used Brother KX-350 at the thrift store for $10. All the parts are there - the video is unopened, but I don't have a VCR!, but it kept jamming and I did a bit of a search and ended up here. I have no idea how old the machine is, but it doesn't look very used, and it's pretty clean, but I flipped it over, and sure enough the sponge is pretty ratty. But it isn't a metal sponge bar. I read on another site

http://208.106.154.204/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=93369

that she sewed the old strip to the new and just pulled it through. Does that sound right?

Thanks, I'm totally new to knitting machines!

Thanks Tina,
I learned from experience on that little bit. I re did my first sponge bar and LITERALLY wandered around for days with injured fingers. Some aren't bars aren't so bad but I thought of it as I was fixing up those bars.
Glad you like the info here.

Thanks for showing how to replaces the sponge bars. I loved the way you explained to take
care of the sharp edges-- I'm the type that
wouldn't think and would slice my fingers.

Good Job! I like to wrap a small piece of tape around the ends of the foam to taper it down for easier insertion into my machines (I use a thicker weather stripping than you did) and if you want to really clean the old foam out of the bar, give it a little soak with some Avon Skin So Soft (other bath oils may work as well, I just like the Avon SSS) , brush the gunk out and wash it with some Dawn dish soap and it's all shiney and new looking for your new foam strip to adhere to.

This was a really cool video! I read about how to refurbish your own sponge bar, but it's great to actually see it. Thanks!
