I am still working on finishing my second sock to complete the pair (hand knitting). I am still learning and have made some mistakes but I will not correct them because these socks are for me. I ran out of yarn and had to attach another one and had to put a knot in so that it shouldn’t interfere with the knitting.
By the way I hope you recuperate soon.

I have started a sweater for myself and I’m looking at fiber and my spindle and waiting for the new year and a chance to finish the lovely fiber sitting here waiting to be spun. I’m also looking at my spinning from last year and deciding what it should be.

It must have been a tinking sort of night last night. I snarled up on the 528th row of 760 – in tuck stitch, card 1, standard gauge. After trying to reweave the stitches and failing miserably(but only after knitting on to see if it would fix itself) I tinked 34, yes, 34 rows of tuck stitch, running the row counter back each row so I would know where to restart the card. The good news is that it worked! Then I was too tired and eye-strained to run the rest of the rows. Guess where I’ll be tonight? Definitely made 11 just on thinking out the rescue.

Yeah; the 4 conseccutive days spent at home recuperating from oral surgery really reminded that the job thing really does get in the way of all that knitting and creativity – until it’s time to think about a metal bed midgauge machine and then the money thing gets refocused. Can’t have one without the other. And even then – !

My granddaughter visited me yesterday and wore a hat I had knitted for her years ago. It looked like your tea cozy but a little more stylish. I am working on the second sock right now and had to rip the heel many times because I forgot what I had done on the first sock. I think I have it now. I laid out the squares I knitted (dishcloth pattern) and realized that I have to knit at least 3 more to make a curtain for one window. The second window will have to wait since I will need 9 more squares. On my cardigan I decided to knit another 2 strips for buttons and buttonholes and substitute normal buttons that a friend gave me.

Rose, Toe up socks are my preferred method. I happen to use a different method for the cast on simply because it works for me. I generally use what some call a sewn bind off at the cuffs, because I find it lets me control the tension better. And yes, I’ve still screwed it up if I get in a hurry. You might want to try this bind off from Knitty http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall09/FEATjssbo.php
It really is stretchy and there’s a link to the magic cast on there too.

As far as the twisted stitches on the second cast on. The only one who knows they are there are us, and we’re not going to say anything. I always figure that if someone gets that close to my knitting that they can see the stitch definition that well then they are probably too close any ways.

I decided to try knitting toe up socks. After much ripping At last I finished one sock but had to rip out the bindoff because I couldn’t get it over my heel. In the meantime I forgot how to do the magic cast-on for the second sock. I finally did it and discovered that I neglected to knit in the back of the stitches of the first round so that these stitches came out backwards or twisted. But since these are for me and is really a learning experience, I am leaving it and not ripping anymore. I think its very good for a first time sock knitter. Also I used thin worsted to make it easier to learn on.

I haven’t commented as often as I have read, and taken inspiration, from the blog. I have been a regular reader, and should have left a word more often. The blog has reminded me that when you say you knit, you have to, you know, actually knit. Knit now. Knit today. I’m a pretty constant knitter, but the challenge to make knitting part of EVERY day was a new idea. Actually, it was freeing to put knitting on the to-do list for every day, rather than take up the needles only when the list was done! I stole time for chores, as I made time for knitting. I also discovered there is more time for knitting than I thought!
My Christmas knitting is on course. I am finishing up some crew socks in Syracuse colors, and have a sweater on the drawing board.

So glad that Heather got the afghan. Was just messaging yesterday with Deb to see if she had heard anything yet since I had not. Glad to hear that the cat is on Heather’s lap and she’s feeling our love.
I know what you mean about gauge. I restarted each of my squares more than once as is noted on my blog. That entrelac square about kicked my butt, but was so worth it in the end.

Rose, put the sweater in time out. Once you’ve let the sweater sulk for a while, go back and look at it with fresh eyes. It won’t seem so bad.

In the meantime, if you want to make another one it sounds like you’ve learned from this one and it should go better. You obviously know where you ran into issues and how to avoid/fix them. You might want to look through Lene’s blog. http://lenealve.blogspot.com/2011/11/kaamos-mittens.html She embroiders on her knits fairly often. That might give you ideas for the first one.

That hat is wonderful and I’m sure it not only blesses the receiver with it’s warmth, but also blesses the giver in return.
My 11 have been used leafing through old KM magazines to see what to keep, give away, and maybe knit. I need to clear some space for holiday company!

The hat is adorable. I am sure Heather will love it. You are a very good friend Lori. I can’t wait to see it on Heather. As far as my cardigan project is going, I just hate it. I tried to hand embroider a line of v’s that was missing and I ended up losing some of them because I tried to straighten them out. The buttons are in the wrong place. I decided to knit up another button band and buttonhole band and use regular buttons even if they don’t match. I will attach the new ones on top of the spoiled ones. I don’t trust myself to rip out the bands. I feel like starting over with a new sweater.

It is good that your niece was not successful in succoring you into knitting this scarf for her. I am sorry to hear about your wrist trouble. It makes my problem seem silly. I finished my cardigan and now realize that I am unable to fix it. I tried to hand sew in the knits to compensate for the row I missed. Now I see that the buttons don’t button right. It is also too small. My thought is to knit another buttonhole and buttonhole band and substitute real buttons for the beads. However I am so discouraged that I really don’t want to work on it anymore.
